Trump Denied Immunity in Election Interference Cases

Much to the disappointment of the Republicans, Mr. Donald Trump will not enjoy immunity from criminal charges. According to reports from the Reuters legal news, Donald Trump will not be enjoying immunity from criminal charges of election result reversal.

Despite multiple efforts, the former President of the United States will not get immunity for his efforts to reverse the 2020 United States presidential election loss. This information comes from the federal prosecutors on the case. Official statements came from the Federal Prosecutors on Thursday. They have made their opposition to a dismissal of charges very clear.

“No constitutional provision or historical practice supports conferring absolute immunity from criminal prosecution on a former president,” was the official statement from prosecutors in Washington.

Trump is one of the Republican presidential candidates on the run for the 2024 elections.

In his legal filings, he has requested immunity from the multiple criminal charges that lie against him. He took quite a few controversial steps while serving as the president from year 2017 to 2021. These controversies have given rise to many lawsuits.

U.S. Special Counsel Jack Smith first charged him in August. The charges included four felony counts. According to them, he attempted to obstruct the 2020 election’s vote count and certification. However, he lost to President Joe Biden.

In another legal filing from October 5, Trump’s legal team argued that prosecuting him for safeguarding “election integrity” is invalid. They held that it was merely an integral part of his presidential duties. This case is one of four criminal prosecutions facing the 77-year-old Trump as he pursues a return to the presidency.
