Sole custody

Sole custody means one parent has legal and physical custody of the child, while the other has visitation rights. The custodial parent may also request child support.

Joint Custody

Most custody arrangements are "joint custody," where both parents have joint legal custody. The child may live primarily with one parent, but the parents still have joint legal custody.

Physical Custody

If you're divorced and you have minor children who mainly live with you, then you have primary physical custody.
