House Speaker Aims To Pass Israel Aid Bill This Week

The House Speaker of the United States is not playing around.

On Sunday, the U.S. Speaker (newly installed), Mr. Mike Johnson, made it very clear that he expects to see major floor action. He wants significant floor action to fund a bill that extends a hand of support to Israel amidst the ongoing crisis.

His request comes even after President Joe Biden delivered a statement announcing $106 billion in the form of an aid package for the country and Ukraine.

The speaker recently attended an interview with the media giant Fox News. There, he said, “We’re going to move a stand-alone Israel funding bill this week in the House.”

He held that this measure would have bipartisan support. The speaker also believes that Republicans will surely be supporting this stance in the Senate.

Meanwhile, the members of the U.S. House of Representatives will be back from recess in the coming week. Right now, the Republicans hold the majority by a slim chance.

“There are lots of things going on around the world that we have to address and we will,” said the speaker in the interview. He refrained from explicitly talking about the Russia and Ukraine conflict.

“But right now what’s happening in Israel takes the immediate attention, and we’ve got to separate that and get it through.” He added. President Joe Biden has also recently called for Congress to approve $106 billion in funds. These funds will serve as support to Ukraine’s defenses in its war against Russia. The fund amount that is to remain will go to Israel. The fund will also support the Indo-Pacific region and the U.S.-Mexico border enforcement.
